Google may replace these Ad sales jobs with AI
Greetings, tech enthusiasts! Welcome to another edition of DataChamp's Daily AI News Briefing, where we unravel the latest tales from the tech cosmos. Today's journey takes us through a spectrum of AI wonders—let's dive in!
Google's Automotive Services: Driving into the Future 🚗🌐
Google is proposing remedies to address competition concerns raised in Germany over its bundling of services in the Google Automotive Services (GAS), an Android-based in-car infotainment system. The Federal Cartel Office (FCO) had objected to Google's bundling of Google Maps, Google Play, and Google Assistant, as well as practices that restricted competitors' chances to sell individual services. Google's proposed solutions include unbundling its services, offering three additional products and removing certain contractual provisions. The FCO will assess the proposals in a market test.
AI for Science: DP Technology's Tech Symphony 🎻🔬
IDP Technology, a Chinese startup founded in 2018, is working on applying artificial intelligence to molecular simulations. The company focuses on combining machine learning with molecular simulations to enhance the speed and accuracy of simulations for various applications, such as biopharmaceutical research, car design, and semiconductor development. DP Technology has developed a suite of software tools for scientific computing, offering simulations of physical properties like magnetism, optics, and electricity. The company is expanding its presence internationally, starting with the U.S., and aims to leverage its open-source scientific computing community, DeepModeling, for global expansion.
AI's Death Calculator: USA Today's Provocative Peek into Mortality 📊💀
Researchers in Denmark and the U.S. have developed an artificial intelligence algorithm known as the "doom calculator" that predicts whether people will die within four years with an accuracy of over 75%. The algorithm, called life2vec, used machine learning to analyze data on more than 6 million people from Denmark, including information on age, health, education, jobs, income, and other life events. The model was trained to assimilate information about people's lives and build individual human life trajectories. The algorithm was able to accurately predict deaths in 78% of cases by 2020.
MIT Researchers and AI: Antibiotic Candidates Unveiled 🧪💡
Researchers at MIT have used deep learning to discover a new class of antibiotic candidates that can effectively kill methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). MRSA is a bacterium responsible for thousands of deaths each year in the United States. The researchers trained a deep learning model using a large dataset and used a modified algorithm to understand the features influencing the model's predictions. They then screened about 12 million compounds to identify five classes of compounds predicted to be active against MRSA. Lab tests confirmed the potency of the identified compounds, which also showed low toxicity to human cells. The findings offer new possibilities for antibiotic drug development.
